ago, Bernard Wilmet and Félix Van Laethem, alumni from Solvay Business
School took the initiative to combine sport, fun and networking in the
annual Solvay Alumni Sailing Cup. The first two editions (2000 and 2001)
were reserved for alumni of Solvay ULB and Solvay VUB only. The first ‘open’ edition was organized in 2002 in Naarden. Next to boats from Solvay ULB and VUB, also boats from Universiteit Nyenrode (NL) and Vlekho Business School participated. Vlekho won the first ‘open’ edition. 18 boats participated in the 2003-cup, which was won by Warocqué. In 2004 again the team of Warocqué, sponsored by Electrabel, proved to combine excellent strategy and seamless execution. 2005 was a mere repetition of 2004 as far as Warocqué was concerned. The 2006 edition was won by Solvay ULB IG & IAG. The editions of 2004 and 2005 were very successfully organised by Hans Mariën, alumnus from Vlekho, who temporarily offered to take over the organisation from Solvay Business School Alumni (SBSA). He changed the name into “Alumni Sailing Cup”. In 2006, Hans offered SBSA to organise the Cup itself again. SBSA wishes to thank all previous organisers, and especially Hans Mariën and the Vlekho-alumni and students for their commitment to this project. Vlekho alumni have set another example of how sports can bring people together to achieve beautiful projects. Other universities and business schools who have participated in the annual sailing cup are ESC Lille,HEC, ICHEC, KU Leuven, UCL-IAG, Universiteit Antwerpen and Vlerick. |
